While Medicare Parts A & B cover many of you health care expenses, you're still responsible for some costs. To help pay these expenses, many people get a Medicare Supplement Insurance Plan from a private insurance company. The plan will help make sure some or all of your out-of-pocket costs are covered.
All Medicare Supplements were standardized in 1992. Insurance Companies that are selling Medicare supplements, all sell the same standardized plans. Supplemental plans E, H, I and J are no longer sold by all private insurance companies. This comes from the CMS Guide for 2011: Choosing Medigap Policy which states, "Plans No Longer for Sale" - Plans E, H, I, and J are no longer sold, but, if you already have one, you can keep it".
You can go to any doctor any hospital anywhere as long as they accept Medicare. There are no networks. The benefits in the standardized plans do not change unless Medicare changes them. You have freedom of choice of hospitals and doctors.
Depending on the Medicare Supplement plan you have, with Medicare and a Medicare Supplement, you may have 100% coverage. There will be a premium charge for a Medicare Supplement, but have few additional out-of-pocket expenses. Rates may vary depending upon age, state, health condition (past and present) and medications.
